A Brief Understanding

In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. I won't spend much time defending the existance of God, or the idea that He created the heavens and the earth because He himself doesn't. He says He did it. If God could create the heavens and the earth, we probably should take a little time to think about it.

The earth had no form and was empty. Then God spoke and brought wonderful things from emptiness and nothingness. Very powerful. The spirit of God walked on the surface of the waters...

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. Let him rule over the beasts of the field, and the birds of the air."

But Why? Why did God who was able to create all of this stuff do it?

Perhaps a little reconstruction of the scene might be in order. The information I present here is not strictly Gospel, I have added a little interpretation to assist you in seeing the picture the way I do. If you find the interpretation difficult to accept, remember that I am not claiming to replace a single word of the authoritative text. I am simply taking the license of a writer to examine the evidence I see and presenting it to you for your consideration. Always refer to the real text, not the novel for answers to your questions. Sola Scriptura!

Creating the Monster

When God decided to create, He did it in a way that amazes me. He took nothing and made something (including you and me). Originally the something that God made was perfect. There were no aches and pains in the original creation. God created Adam and He created Eve with only one responsiblity; to have a relationship with Him.

God decided to allow His creation to make a choice. He did not force Adam and Eve to relate to Him without other options. He allowed Lucifer to present his own options to Eve and through her to Adam. That option was to "be like God." Sounded pretty good to Eve, so she went for it. Then Eve presented the cool new way to Adam.

God allowed what He made (Adam, Eve and His whole creation) to become nothing by choosing to side with Lucifer. They became imperfect. Full of devious desires and conflicting interests. They sinned. So have I and so have you.

If you take all of this at face value as I ask you to for now, you will notice that an all powerful (remember, God says this about Himself) being has created a perfect creation and allowed that creation to become imperfect. This made it necessary for the all powerful God to redeem the creation Himself. There is nothing that can be done to make an imperfect thing perfect before God that man himself can do. God, if He wanted to have a relationship with His creation was forced to redeem that creation. The sole purpose of this redemption was to have a relationship with you and me. God didn't need us to rebel against Him to be fulfilled. He could have created us perfect and prevented us from becoming imperfect. He could have avoided the whole problem by not creating us in the first place.

But He didn't.
